Variable Pitch Propellers

GT variable pitch propellers blades are manufactured from a mixture of different wood. The blade roots are made of highly compressed Beech wood, which is specially produced for aviation applications and has a tensile strength similar to metal. It is tapered, mated through special joints and bonded to the outer blade which is made of lightwood, Spruce / Cedar. The entire blade surface is then laminated with two or more layers of Glass, Carbon or Kevlar and Epoxy resin. Leading edge protection is applied by injecting a special two-component resin. This guards against impact from gravel, rain and grass. It is easily replaceable in case of damage. The blades are finished with several coats of two-component acrylic and polyurethane paint. Different colours are available. GT blades can be operated in any weather conditions and also from unpaved airstrips. The blade root retainer is bonded to a special inner conical threaded bush made of aluminium or steel. This technology was pioneered by a propeller manufacturer during WW II and is still perfectly functional and offers the following advantages when compared to a metal blade:

GT Propellers produce variable pitch propellers in two, three, four and five blade configuration. Tractor or pusher types available, electric or hydraulic controlled – with or without counterweights. With this technology we produce blades for power plants that produce from 80 up to 2000 HP.

GT Propeller hubs are manufactured of high-grade aerospace aluminium alloy, which guarantees high strength. For special applications some hubs models are made of steel. All internal parts of both alloy and steel hubs are plating and externally are painted for corrosion protection. For the hydraulic controlled propellers the axial movement of the piston is transferred to the pitch change knob by a fork and pitch change blocks, thus varying the blade angle. Mechanical stops limit the pitch range. The optimum blade angle can be adjusted once the propeller is installed on the aircraft. An electric motor fitted in the hub and specially engineered to change the pitch is used in our electrically controlled hubs. Several electronic governors are in available. Normally these propeller hub types are installed only on engines that cannot accept a hydraulic type application.



GT spinners and back plate are made of composite, usually glass and carbon. For particular applications Kevlar is adopted. Some particular spinners are made of metal. Various spinner diameters and models are possible.
